I believe I was born with this creative madness 54 years ago. At that time Eisenhower was President and gay people didn't exist. Life was tidy and no one made waves. Then I showed up. Look, I did my best but didn't fit in anywhere. However I was a quick study and could "play along" like I got it. I was called "high strung" and "seriously moody". Later I was called much more than that, but I digress. I really felt like "Alice through the looking glass". When my mind just refused to stop racing,I began to find ways to help it slow down. After all it was the 60's and drugs aplenty,drugs galore. I self medicated for 35 years and instead of finding a suitable answer to my brains misfiring, I just became a drunk and junkie. All noticeable symptoms covered by a an avalanche of opiates, booze and cocaine. I've been sober 5 years now and have just been diagnosed with this dangerous gift. I'm taking meds.(depakote) and finding the balance and serenity I always thought to be a myth. It isn't a cure all, but it's light years better then anything I've attempted on my own. I stopped writing years ago because it could be and was used against me. I'm doing this now because I can. The freedom is incredible.
